Forma Custom Furniture- The Artists

“Paintings, drawings, and sculptures in the studio rotate and shift and are created in proximity to one another: in literal space. These objects are employed as tools to further investigate trivial and idiosyncratic moments of my daily life. Slowing down is absolutely paramount as the division of art and life is blurred.”

Molly and James started FORMA to slow down and make long lasting objects. Combatting planned obsolescence one beautiful object at a time.

Molly keeps FORMA honest and on course. Her design sensibility drives the business forward. With a degree in Arts Management and 15+ years in the retail industry, her experience with customer first planning and future focused mindset is a critical asset to the continued success of FORMA.

James is an artist and furniture maker born on the Southside of Chicago. He received his BFA in painting and sculpture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his MFA in Visual Studies from the Pacific Northwest College of the Arts in Portland, Oregon. Papadopoulos has been making art objects for the better half of 18 years and honed his woodworking, finish carpentry, and welding skills working for high-end furniture companies in Chicago, IL. Paoli, WI. and Madison, WI.

"The emphasis within my practice is not on subject matter but matter itself. A wood cut-off on the floor can inform a segment of a sculpture or piece of furniture. A walk can generate a drawing. My studio centric practice becomes a philosophical model. Everything is questioned and answers are a rarity. I posit what happens with every shift between a material’s past use or origin and its new reconfiguration? I await the challenges that arise with a given material on a daily basis. Ambiguity and a type of exploratory confusion becomes a daily practice in an effort to never find answers."
