Inspired by midcentury modern design, the pierced collection is wheel thrown and hand pierced stoneware with a variegated crystalline glaze. Small holes are created when the clay is still wet and then each hole is painstakingly enlarged and smoothed when the clay is bone dry. A single glaze is then applied to varying thickness and fired. Slow cooling, form and exact application of the glaze combine to create this unique glazed effect. It has taken years of trial and error to tweak these elements. But because the glaze is so so volatile and unpredictable, not two pieces are exactly alike. The piece pictured here is the one you will receive. This one is a perfect example of what the technique can do.
